I won't be upgrading my lens anytime soon. Not until it completely breaks or something. Image Stabilization doesn't serve me any real purpose for the things I shoot, so I don't plan to spend the extra money for it.

My CF cards are SanDisk 8GB cards. My audio recorder has some generic SD card in it that came with it.

Thanks for reading!

Re: My gear – The toolbox

Thanks for sharing your toolbox of gears! I'm about to get the 70-200mm but I am not sure between the old and new one. Will you upgrade yours? Also, one thing you didn't mention in your toolbox.. sounds silly but what sd card you use for photoshoot and recording? :)

Thank you again!

Re: Canon 17-55 IS USM or 24-70 L?

The 24-70 is pretty much the perfect "if I could only have one lens" lens to me. Any time I got out on assignment and think it will be too much of a hassle to carry two lenses, or any time I have to chose which one lens to take with me somewhere, it's always the 24-70 without hesitation. Even on a crop body, I think it's enough wide angle to shoot an overall, and still a nice bit of telephoto to shoot a nice detail or portrait, too.

I used a 16-35 II all summer on my internship and carried it along with my 70-200 most of the time. I liked that lens, but it's not as sharp at the 24-70 at all.

Thanks for reading and commenting!

Re: Canon 17-55 IS USM or 24-70 L?

Interesting - I have literally spent 8 hours searching the web on this topic. I've just sold my 17-55 because of the same thing. For a lens of that expense the images just never seemed THAT amazing to me, certainly not when I compared it to my actual L lens (70-200 2.8 IS), or even the 50mm 1.4
So now I'm trying to work out what to buy next, either the 16-35, the 24-70, or even the 35 1.4L. There are very few reviews critical of the 17-55, and I don't think I'm that much of a pretentious photographer. Just whenever I looked at my images from the 17-55 it was more like 'meh'. Considering this is to be my main walkaround lens, I just need something better.

Re: College basketball with a remote camera

Be sure to pick up another magic arm and a few safety cables for your camera. Each piece you put up should have a safety cable. Also be aware of where you mount your wireless trigger. Depending on the unit you bought the ideal mounting spot may change.

Re: Fun with business cards

Sure do, it's just not a featured product on the website yet because they don't get as many orders for them. It was a bad move for me. The hype that the 17-55 IS had did not keep up to the 24-70L. Just something about the colors in the 24-70L that brought people to life. Though the 17-55 was actually pretty sharp, I had to sell it. If I ever go back to zooms the only one I'll ever buy again is the 24-70L and just surround it with L primes.

Re: Cincinnati Intern life (continued)

Well-written post and very impressive shots, Sam! I am Carter's grandfather, so factor in that my opinion is biased. But I am also a photgraphy hobbiest and the shots you did are absolutely incredible. The lighting, the angles, the settings, even the poses reflect someone who has unique artistic vision. These go far beyond the 'professional' pictures we have hired others to do in the past. My highest compliments and we won't hesitate to contact you down the road when we next need a photgrapher. I would like to know what you charge to ship a CD or DVD of the 'Carter' images in high resolution so that we can print some copies in 8x10 and 5x7 format for our personal use. Please reply at your convenience to ekelb@woh.rr.com

Re: Claudia and Doug Trapp’s wedding

These are really neat photos!
